May 6 “Cheer Up”

They’re the Cranky Geeks.

They’re cranky, and they’re geeky.

And they have a show.

… but not on TiVo any more. Which sucks. Now I have to watch a show about the Internet, ON the Internet.
Which I think may be ironic.

From the Cranky Geeks website:

John C. Dvorak John C. Dvorak, whose crankiness knows no bounds, is a contributing editor of PC Magazine, for which he has been writing two columns, including the popular Inside Track, since 1986.

The consistently irritated Dvorak has won eight national awards from the Computer Press Association, including Best Columnist and Best Column.

Recent episodes do not seem to be included on the Cranky Geeks YouTube channel, and the videos on crankygeeks.com were not easily available for embedding here. Which makes me cranky. You’ll just have to watch via the website, like the rest of us.  Curse you Cranky Geeks!!

Apr 14 “Anarchy”

Twitter is diffuse,

Less than the sum of its parts.

The centre can’t hold.

From William Butler Yeats:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Apr 11 “Yum”

“This Is Why You’re Fat”.

Another guilty pleasure.

(The blog, not the food).

The name of the blog says it all:
“This Is Why You’re Fat — where dreams become heart attacks”

Epically excessive epicurean delights.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might feel a little sick.
Or you might think, hmmm, that looks kind of good…

Sausage Fatty

A giant Jimmy Dean Maple Sausage filled with bacon, cream cheese, mushrooms, jalapeños and Colby cheese.

And if you’re still hungry, have some dessert:

Double-layer breakfast cake

Breakfast Cake

Two layers of egg, sausage, bacon, cheese quiche with country gravy in between,
topped with gravy icing garnished with bacon bits.

All this and more at thisiswhyyourefat.com (no affiliation, I’m just lover of fine food and fine blogs).

Skype for the iPhone –

if you can afford the phone,

just pay for the calls.

YouTube video: Demo of Skype for iPhone

From IT World Canada:

Skype for iPhone available everywhere but Canada

Skype Technologies S.A. will make its highly anticipated debut on the Apple Inc. iPhone Tuesday, but Canadian users will be one of the only countries in the world left shut out.

“There is a patent-license issue in Canada which prevents us from making Skype available on the iPhone,” Chaim Haas, a spokesperson on behalf of Skype, told ComputerWorld Canada in an e-mail.

The free Skype iPhone app will allow non-Canadian users to make Skype-to-Skype calls at no cost, call landlines or non-Skype cell phones at a reduced rate, and use the tool’s instant messaging service.
